Decrease our Chemical Body Burden.
Taking steps to avoid potentially harmful exposures can help reduce the risk of adverse health consequences. What Can We do to Decrease our Chemical Body Burden?
These steps can include;
1. Reducing consumption of processed foods and drinks
Here’s an easy tip-Shop your local if you can, farmers’ market and local grocery stores Like Gret Scot or Brinkmans to get local produce.
And when you can’t do that Shop your grocery store on the OUTSIDE areas only! Don’t go in the middle aisles. This is where all the processed foods are- if it comes in a box or has a shelf life of more than a couple days or a week it probably shouldn’t be consumed.
2. Minimizing the use of household and personal-care products that contain harmful chemicals:
I use 16oz of white distilled vinegar, doTerra oil typically melaleuca and warm water.
3. Washing food well before eating it: sometimes I even double-wash it
4. Vacuuming and mopping floors to reduce toxic chemicals in house dust and indoor air.
( No Shoes in the house rule )
So those are some quick and easy tips you can make now. I’d like to go a little deeper into
5 ways to detox your toxic load and begin to change your lifestyle and consumer habits.
I know it’s hard because I struggle giving up certain products that are convenient but when I think of the long-term health effects on my family’s health it is worth it!
Before we move any further let’s be clear on what I’m referencing when talking Toxic load. Simply put, I’m talking about the accumulation of toxins and chemicals that are in our bodies right now this very moment that we ingest from a mix of different sources, including the environment, the food we eat, the water we drink, and the personal care and household products we use.
Below you will find FIVE important categories to pay attention to that will help to decrease your toxic load.
1. Banish Plastic + BPA’s:
Avoid plastic water bottles + food storage containers and use glass or steel instead. BPA and phthalates ( found in plastics) acts as an estrogen-mimicking substances that have been linked to the onset of cancer, endocrine imbalance and reproductive issues.
My favorite brand to swap to is Weck-it is a canning company that offers glass storing containers over plastic. Throw that plastic out.
Our family uses these as drinking cups for smoothies and for storing leftovers or food prep.
Another common household kitchen Item you can swap plastics includes exchanging your Ziplock for something more sustainable such as Stasher bags.
Not looking to spend the money to buy all-new glass Tupperware right now? simply upcycle your old pickle jars or canning jars for the time being.
2. Clean Green:
Kick the typical household cleaners that are loaded with harmful chemicals, did you know those ultimately wind up on every surrounding surface and circulate throughout the air you breathe?
This unnecessary exposure can lead to an array of health issues.
While you can find safer + cleaner alternatives at the store, you can just as easily make your own from home.
Here’s our household’s simple recipe
- 1⁄4 cup Dr Bronners Liquid soap +1 quart water + a few drops of tea tree essential oil.
- pour all ingredients into a reusable glass spray bottle and give yourself a pat on the back.
3. Be Cosmetic Conscious:
On average, a woman uses TWELVE personal care products a day on her skin – her LARGEST ORGAN before she ever leaves the house.
Most of these contain endocrine-disrupting chemicals that can interfere with our hormones. Ready for another whammy?
The US only bans THIRTY ingredients and that hasn’t been updated since 1938. Let’s not forget to top that off with the fact that the FDA doesn’t even hold the power to recall a product if a known reaction occurs! This is why it is so important to look at the products that you are using every day.
These are things like lotions, shampoos, deodorants, toothpastes, skin care regimens, makeup and yes perfumes. A great resource to utilize is the EWG Skin Deep Database or purchase your products from a company that is already sharing transparently, sourcing responsibly, banning intentionally, screening rigorously and learning constantly. looking for my personal favorite – look no further

4. Trust your gut:
Digestive health is imperative when it comes to our bodies natural way to remove toxins from our body.
When we come into contact with additional environmental stressors our digestive system loses its ability to function at its optimal performance.
We can add simple corrections like eating slowly, chewing our food fully and revamping our eating habits. Simply limiting or omitting processed sugars and other frequent offenders like gluten and dairy while incorporating a daily probiotic supplement and or by eating more fermented foods like kimchi or sauerkraut. Kombucha, kefir,
5. Go Organic:
When you choose organic food -this means you are avoiding foods that were sprayed with harmful pesticides.
It’s best to choose organic whenever possible however as a general rule It’s easy to remember if the produce you are purchasing is one that you will wash and bite right into then it should be organic.
